About the Project

The defence forces play a major role in the progress, integrity and prosperity of any nation. The soldiers – our war heroes, put their lives at stake in battlefields to keep us safe. They protect our borders, sacrifice their lives and youthful years in extreme hardships to make the nation safe and peaceful.

A War memorial is intended primarily to commemorate the sacrifice and memorialize the names of individuals who went to war (most often as combatants, but also as medical or other personnel), and particularly those who were injured or killed. This war memorial at Amritsar was designed along the major axis connecting Golden temple and theWagha Border. The main entrance and the memorial tower or commemoration tower is located along this axis and rest of the functions are distributed along the axis perpendicular to it. The building housing gallery for permanent and temporary exhibits along with auditorium and the sculpture court is located perpendicular to it.

The local architecture of Punjab region is renewed in the modern context. The Sikh architectural elements like arches, jalis are modernized to be in present context. The landscape design of the complex invites people to feel relaxed and also educates the future generation about scarifies made by our national heroes. The commemoration tower symbolizes the difficult and challenging life of our soldiers. The backdrop ofcommemoration tower is the commemoration wall with names of war heroes inscribed on it. The sculpture court  is yet another canvas to depict and remeber those who laid down their lives serving the nation. The building has a central courtyard with OAT, green walls and galleries and an auditorium located around it.

The meticulously landscaped outdoors and exhibits, especially seen lit up during night, create a magical experience for visitors. Almost every aspect of the memorial whether indoors or outdoors aims to project a sense of honor, respect and loyalty towards the nation and creates an atmosphere where we are naturally inspired and motivated to remember and pay tribute to our national heroes.
