About the Project
Rajendra Hospital Patiala was named after the Maharaja Rajendra Singh (1856–1900) of erstwhile state. The Government Medical College was started on 29th September, 1953 at Patiala, the capital of the erstwhile PEPSU state (The Patiala and East Punjab Union). This was the first Medical College in the region catering to a population of over 20 lacs. It started as a 500 bedded hospital and presently houses over double this capacity in Rajendra Hospital Patiala and another 121 in T.B.Hospital, Patiala.
The original college building was constructed to cater to the admission of 50 MBBS students whereas at present: – 150 M.B.B.S., 90 Post Graduate, 4 MSc.(Biochemistry, Anatomy) 50 Bsc. Nursing, 30 Post Basic Nursing, 10 Bsc. Medical (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry), 40 D.M.L.T, 60 D-Pharmacy, 11 Radiographer Diploma students are being admitted in this Institution. 150 number of seats were sanctioned by the MCI for Governemnt College Patiala. The present infrastructure was upgraded by adding the library building, the academic block, 500 students girls hostel and 500 sudents boys hostels. The library building was added adjoining to existing library building and connected to the existing building at first floor. The girls and boys hotel blocks were added adjacent to the existing girls and boys hostel block. The academic building is designed for the additional 150 intake in medical college.
